Job summary

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) in Hackettstown, NJ is seeking a Construction Inspector to monitor and document land development and municipal infrastructure projects. The role involves field inspections, site coordination with contractors, and ensuring compliance with plans, specs, and permits.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in construction inspection, strong communication skills, and the ability to travel to multiple project sites.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in construction inspection or observation on land development and/or municipal infrastructure projects
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Strong written and verbal communication with attention to detail and documentation accuracy
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with field reporting or construction management software
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple project sites as required

Responsibilities

• Observe and inspect construction activities for land development and municipal infrastructure projects
• Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, local regulations, and applicable engineering standards
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, site conditions, installed quantities, workforce/equipment on site, and overall project progress
• Track and verify installed quantities to support payment applications, cost tracking, and project documentation
• Capture and maintain photographic documentation of construction progress, milestones, and field conditions
• Serve as a field liaison between contractors, municipal clients, utility agencies, and the design team to support communication and resolve field issues
• Attend construction progress meetings and provide updates on work status, schedule adherence, and field challenges
• Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements
• Assist with review of shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders as directed by project engineers or managers
• Monitor project schedules and proactively communicate potential delays or impacts to project management
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and report unsafe conditions or practices observed in the field
• Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and other stakeholders during active construction operations
• Support project closeout activities, including punch list development, final walkthroughs, and as-built documentation

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is $45,000 to $85,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, skill set and location.
