Job summary

WSP is seeking a Full-time Construction Inspector for our Charlotte, NC office. Join our Construction Management Team to help meet client objectives and tackle challenges on site.

You will examine plans and schedules, support senior inspectors, verify safety and compliance, and perform field tests and data analysis. Strong communication and teamwork are essential to success on this project.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 3 years of road and bridge construction inspection and testing experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to attain listed certifications within 90 days or per class schedule.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and compute field data.
  • Knowledge of construction inspection principles, codes, regulations and record-keeping.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-time Construction Inspector for our Charlotte, NC office. Be involved in projects with our Construction Management Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Your Impact
  • Examine and interpret construction plans, schedules and quantities.
  • Support senior project inspectors in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying and material sampling and testing.
  • Verify that work is performed safely and in accordance with the project plans and specifications.
  • Perform a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing and processing field data.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma.
  • 3 years of road and bridge construction inspection and testing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Engineering Interns (EI) may be eligible for this position without experience.
  • The ability to attain the following certifications within 90 days +/- or as class scheduling allows: NCDOT Concrete Field Technician certification, NCDOT Conventional Density certification, Level II Erosion & Sediment Control/Storm water certification, NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician certification, NCDOT ABC and Borrow Pit Sampling certification
  • Ability to keep accurate records and compute field data.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
  • General awareness of construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods and techniques.
  • General awareness of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non‑technical audience.
  • Effective self‑leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Ability to perform physical activities required of the testing and inspection procedures including squatting, bending, lifting, climbing and traversing difficult terrain.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
