Job summary

GHD is seeking a Construction Inspector to support transportation projects in our Austin-area team. You will perform daily inspections, collect data, and prepare field reports to verify work aligns with contract requirements and quality standards.

Responsibilities include identifying issues early, coordinating corrective actions with contractors, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines throughout project delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of construction inspection experience in transportation projects.
• Valid driver’s license and OSHA-10 certification (may be required).
• Knowledge of contract plans, specs and safety standards.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections, sampling, and testing of work in progress.
• Prepare accurate daily field reports documenting activities and issues.
• Coordinate with contractors to identify inspection needs and corrective actions.
• Ensure work complies with project plans, specifications and safety rules.

Who are we looking for?

GHD is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our growing transportation team! As a Contractor Inspector you will help to ensure contractor work meets project quality standards and contract requirements. This role performs daily inspections, sampling, and testing of completed and in-progress work, while coordinating with contractors to identify inspection needs, address issues early, and support timely corrective action.

The Construction Inspector will prepare accurate daily reports documenting field activities, inspections, tests, progress, quantities, weather, deficiencies, non-conforming work, root causes, and corrective actions. Reports are submitted to the supervising Professional Engineer for review and final sign-off, with additional duties assigned as needed to support safe, high-quality project delivery.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Data Collection and Analysis: Produce accurate reports for others by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats.
• Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate risks and to safeguard the environment and the well-being of self and others.
• Insights and Reporting: Extract simple/automatic data in various forms (graphs, charts, etc.) to include in reports.
• Operational Compliance: Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards. Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure.
• Personal Capability Building: Develop and maintain excellent process or technical skills by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching.
• Quality Review: Check the quality of work undertaken by teams in accordance with well-defined quality standards, identifying appropriate rectification where necessary.
• Regulatory and Compliance Management: Carry out a wide range of compliance monitoring activities and give basic advice on compliance and regulatory requirements.

What will you bring to the team?

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in construction inspection experience with focus on transportation infrastructure projects
• Valid driver's license
• OSHA-10 (may be required by job)
• Additional safety certifications may vary by project/site location standards.
• Knowledge of construction techniques, processes, materials and equipment used in transportation projects
• Knowledge of contracts, project plans and specifications
• Knowledge of applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specifications
• Ability to read and interpret engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings
• Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
