Job summary

GAI Consultants Inc. is seeking a Construction Inspection Intern in White Plains, NY. You will locate points on the worksite, compare measurements to plans, and prepare clear reports as part of an inspection team on highway, roundabout, traffic signal, and bridge projects.

You will gain field experience, work toward NICET Level I, and collaborate with engineers, planners, surveyors, and inspectors to support transportation projects.

Qualifications

• Field experience or successful completion of NICET Level I testing is required.
• ABET/EAC accredited program or approved equivalent with math and civil technology credits.

Responsibilities

• Locate points on the worksite based on project drawings.
• Identify basic construction operations and locate information in standards, specs, and plans.
• Perform basic math computations (areas and volumes).
• Accurately measure and compare values with plans.
• Identify common tools and equipment used for inspection, testing and measuring.
• Properly identify and use PPE on construction sites.
• Identify work zone traffic control components.
• Prepare accurate and understandable reports of operations.

Job description

About This Position

Construction Inspection Intern should be able to follow technical instructions and learn typical construction inspection methods from more experienced construction inspectors. Work includes small projects or portions of larger projects as part of the inspection team. Typical projects include highway, roundabout, traffic signal, and bridge.

Essential Job Functions

• Locate points on the worksite based on information on project drawings
• Identify basic construction operations and be able to locate the correlating information in the standards, specifications and plans
• Perform basic math computations (areas and volumes of simple shapes, multiplication, addition and subtraction of various measurements)
• Accurately measure and compare measured values with plans
• Identify common tools and equipment used for inspection, testing and measuring
• Properly identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the construction site
• Identify work zone traffic control components
• Prepare accurate and understandable reports of operations

Job Requirements

• Field experience or successful completion of NICET Level I testing and requirements.
• Previous employment by NYSDOT as a title ET/TCI preferred.
• Completion of one year in a program leading to an associate degree in Civil Engineering/Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET/EAC accredited program or an approved equivalent including eight (8) credit hours in Math and eleven (11) credit hours in Civil Technology,

Pay Range

Albany, Poughkeepsie, White Plains, Syracuse, NY: $28/hour - $30/hour

Pay will be based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and position location.
