Job summary

HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our Construction Group in Riverside, CA. This role blends fieldwork with project coordination and client-facing teamwork, supporting Project Managers and supervising habitat restoration crews.

You will start in the field installing native seed and inspecting BMPs, then move to the office to update tracking tools and help prepare proposals. The position offers a hybrid schedule and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Knowledge of habitat restoration or construction fields—through internship, volunteer work, or professional experience.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors safely and effectively.
  • Valid CA driver’s license with clean record.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers in planning and coordinating habitat restoration projects.
  • Participate in fieldwork: irrigation installation, plant removal, seeding, grading, erosion control, BMP installation.
  • Use tools such as FieldMaps, Field Suite Services (FSS), Survey123 for project tracking.
  • Assist with proposals, cost estimating, pre/post-bid walks, schedules, and documentation.
  • Supervise crews and maintain field logs and reporting.
  • Cultivate positive client interactions and help identify business opportunities.

A Day in the Life

As an Assistant Project Manager in our Construction Group, your day blends fieldwork, project coordination, and client‑facing teamwork. You might start your morning in the field installing native seed or inspecting stormwater BMPs, then transition to the office to update project tracking tools or contribute to proposals. You’ll support Project Managers, help supervise habitat restoration crews, and play a key role in keeping restoration projects on track.

Schedule & Flexibility
  • Primarily Riverside based
  • Hybrid schedule available depending on project needs
  • Outdoor fieldwork required year-round in varying terrain and weather

Requirements

Bonus skills: native plant knowledge, 1-3 years restoration/construction professional experience, advanced fieldwork experience, familiarity with habitat restoration practices, BMPs, erosion control, irrigation systems and native vegetation management and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and field data collection platforms such as ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey123 or similar project tracking tools

Salary Description

25.00 - 29.00 per hour
