Job summary

State Utility Contractors, Inc. in Monroe, NC seeks an experienced Financial Controller to lead accounting, payroll, contracts, AR/AP, and reporting for a 100% employee-owned construction firm. You will supervise IT and ensure GAAP compliance, tax filings, and audits while driving process improvements.

The role requires heavy involvement with job costing, cash flow forecasting, and external CPA coordination, reporting directly to the CFO. Prior construction experience is essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership in construction.
• Solid knowledge of WIP reporting.
• Proactive in improving processes while maintaining controls.
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
• Construction accounting: 5+ years (Required).
• Cost accounting: 5+ years (Required).
• Experience dealing with banks/financial institutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Strong knowledge of Excel.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting staff and internal controls; ensure timely receivables/payments with proper documentation.
• Manage month-end and year-end close; produce financial statements.
• Forecast cash flow and manage investment activity.
• Back up Payroll Specialist; handle payroll tax filings.
• Coordinate with external CPA on income/corporate tax returns and sales tax filings.
• Oversee IT support and streamline accounting workflows and reports.
• Manage Trimble Viewpoint Vista system and licensing.
• Prepare internal monthly financial statements; assist with quarterly reviews.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and corporate audits.
