Job summary

P.J. Keating Company, a CRH company, is seeking a Construction Project Engineer to support the Superintendent in planning, coordination, and supervision of daily construction operations on highway projects.

This role ensures safety, efficiency, and adherence to schedules and contract requirements, serving as a liaison between field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and project management. The position emphasizes field leadership, quality control, and adherence to OSHA and DOT standards, with

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates or bachelor's degree preferred in construction management or Civil Engineering.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of roadway, bridge, asphalt paving, grading, drainage, and utility construction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Superintendent in managing daily construction activities and project execution.
  • Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to meet production goals.
  • Support planning and implementation of weekly and daily work plans.
  • Monitor construction progress and identify potential schedule impacts.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field to oversee operations and support crews.
  • Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Assist with jobsite safety inspections and audits.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, and company safety requirements.
  • Monitor workmanship and ensure compliance with project quality standards.
  • Review construction activities for conformance with plans and specifications.
  • Identify and address quality issues before they impact project performance.
  • Assist in project start up activities.
  • Assist with punch list completion and project closeout activities.
  • Track daily progress.
  • Coordinate deliveries, equipment utilization, and subcontractor activities.
  • Communicate schedule updates and constraints to the Superintendent and Project Manager.
  • Provide direction and support to Foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
  • Assist with workforce planning and crew assignments.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and professional development.
  • Address field issues promptly and professionally.
  • Complete daily timecards for crews when required.
  • Support project recordkeeping and document control requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with project owners, engineers, inspectors, and utility representatives.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide field updates.
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and subcontractors.
