Job summary

SYSTRA is seeking Construction Field Engineers - Electrical/Communications to support rail mass transit projects in the New York City area, including NYCT Station Improvement assignments.

The on-site role involves inspecting electrical and communications work, coordinating with contractor supervision, and working within a multi-disciplinary construction management team under the Resident Engineer and Project Manager. Flexibility to work nights and weekends is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum five (5) years of relevant engineering experience including electrical systems, security installations, fiber optic systems, public address systems and CCTV.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or construction management preferred.
• Prior field experience on rail mass transit projects; NYCT Station Improvement project experience preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
• Good verbal and written communications skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the on-site inspector for electrical and communications work performed by the contractor and subcontractors.
• Interact with the contractor’s site supervision on electrical and communications field issues to ensure contract compliance.
• Participate as part of the Construction Management team under the on-site Project Manager.
• Become familiar with project design documents, plans and specifications for electrical and communications work.
• Perform daily on-site field inspections and generate daily inspection reports.
• Accept Flexible Work Hours including Nights and Weekends.
• Maintain compliance with safety standards and monitor the contractor’s health and safety program.

SYSTRA's growing Construction Management business unit is currently seeking Construction Field Engineers - Electrical/Communications to support our current and upcoming rail mass transit construction management assignments on construction projects in operating railroad environments in the New York City Area, including several NYCT Station Improvement projects.

Responsibilities:

The Construction Field Engineer – Electrical / Communications under the direction of the Resident Engineer will:

• Serve as the on-site inspector for electrical and communications work performed by the contractor and subcontractors performing capital improvement work at NYCT Stations
• Interact with the construction contractor’s site supervision on electrical and communications field issues to insure compliance with the construction contract requirements
• Participate as part of the Construction Management team that includes Mechanical and Structural Field Engineers, Office Engineer, and Project Controls personnel, all under the overall supervision of the SYSTRA on-site Project Manager
• Become intimately familiar with the project design documents, (plans and specifications) particularly those pertaining to electrical and communications work
• Perform daily on-site field inspections and generate a daily inspection report of the inspection results
• Accept Flexible Work Hours including Nights and Weekends consistent with the hours of the contractor’s work
• Maintain compliance with safety standards and monitor the contractor’s compliance with its Project Health and Safety Program and its Safe Work Plans, including attendance at the contractor’s daily safety briefings.
