Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (Senior or AVP)

Join Zurich North America as a Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (Senior or AVP). We are flexible with location in the Midwest or Western regions, including Chicago, Schaumburg, Overland Park, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, or any city with a Zurich office. This role offers a hybrid work model, requiring in-office presence three days per week to meet with agents and brokers.

As a Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter, you will underwrite new and renewal business, develop strong market relationships, and contribute to our team’s success. Experience with construction wrap excess casualty is preferred. The position is open at either the Senior Underwriter or AVP level, with the appropriate level determined by experience and skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Seek renewal and new account opportunities proactively.
• Underwrite national account business with expertise.
• Assess opportunities with key distributors to identify growth.
• Develop proposals and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters.
• Qualify accounts aligned with our business appetite.
• Engage with agents, brokers, and clients through calls and site visits.
• Negotiate terms and close deals.
• Cross-sell other lines of business to increase product density.
• Participate in sales meetings and manage a pipeline of opportunities 90-120 days ahead of effective date.
• Build and maintain broker and client networks within targeted industries.

Qualifications

For Senior Underwriter:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent + 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or 10+ years in claims/support roles.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree + 3+ years in underwriting/market-facing roles, or 8+ years in claims/support roles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience working under time constraints.

For AVP:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent + 7+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles, or 14+ years in claims/support roles.
• Zurich approved Apprenticeship program with an Associate Degree + 5+ years in underwriting/market-facing roles, or 12+ years in claims/support roles.
• Experience with umbrella underwriting and Microsoft Office.
