B&G Equipment and Supply is seeking a Mechanic III for our construction equipment rental division. All benefits, including health, dental, vision, and 401k, start on your first day of employment. This is an advanced-level position responsible for performing jobs involving repairs, diagnostics, servicing, and green tagging equipment for rental working both on a team and independently. Examples of the types of machinery that the candidate must be able to evaluate and repair include earth moving equipment, diesel engines, gas engines, small tools, forklifts, aerial equipment, and others as required. This position requires participation in internal and external training programs and initiatives. The Mechanic III will demonstrate initiative, commitment to teamwork, enthusiasm for creating a World Class Experience for our customers, and dedication to finding solutions in an efficient manner.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties include the following:

  • Always approach every assignment with your personal safety and the safety of your teammates in mind.
  • Maintain your assigned work area in a safe, clean, well organized manner, free of slip and trip hazards, and free of clutter at all times including in shop and service trucks.
  • All essential job functions associated with Mechanic II classifications.
  • Plans and performs major repairs using correct tools and procedures.
  • Orders and returns parts for an assigned job in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform the following tasks on major components in work area including engine, hydraulic, transmission, and electrical components: remove and install; disassemble and reassembly; diagnostic work; repairs and adjustments.
  • Demonstrates proper use of necessary diagnostic equipment.
  • Demonstrates proper use of service information systems.
  • Works independently in the field as required.
  • Inspect tools and equipment to diagnose malfunction or to determine functional condition or jobsite worthiness.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations listed in the equipments respective service manuals.
  • Repair tools and equipment enclosures, interiors, dashboards, and related equipment.
  • Perform emergency repairs away from the shop to return the equipment to operation, or to assist in returning the equipment to the shop for further repair.
  • Operate tools or equipment to diagnose malfunction, verify operation, or to move it into or out of the shop area.
  • Mentor less experienced technicians as required.
  • Fabrication and welding.
  • Maintain all required records and yearly equipment inspections
  • Remove and replace major systems and individual components for repair or replacement
  • Overhaul major systems or components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, etc.
  • Perform skilled maintenance on systems and components such as computerized ignition, fuel injection, and other systems using specialized diagnostic and repair tools and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in fuel, electrical, ignition, exhaust, brake, hydraulics and suspension systems
  • Mentor less experienced technicians as required
Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Tools as needed to performed assigned task in a safe and efficient manner.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of work experience involving mechanical repairs or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education is required.
  • Experience using computers, and basic typing skills are required.
  • Ability to follow all applicable safety standards, rules, laws, and procedures.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to acquire increasingly complex mechanical skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to record information in the proper manner in both written work orders and computer databases
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and customers.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather
  • Ability to position the body to effect repairs in confined spaces, such as underneath dashboards, under vehicles, etc.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to reach, hold, position, maneuver, and operate hand tools and replacement parts
  • Ability to identify wires, and other parts by color and other identifying information
  • Ability to use fine hand and finger movements to identify and work on parts not always visible
  • Ability to lift, carry, position, and hold parts weighing up to 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance during repairs and with mechanical assistance, that could exceed 500 pounds.
