Job summary

Wagman is seeking a Construction Engineering Technician (CAD Operator/Design) to join the Geotechnical Group. The candidate will assist with CAD drawings, reviews, material ordering and engineering tasks while learning in a structural/geotechnical design-build environment.

Minimal travel is required, with primary location in Berryville, VA, and opportunities to work with the project team on ground improvement, deep foundations, micropiles and retaining wall systems.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or internship/ CAD certification; on-site experience is a plus.
• Experience in structural/geotechnical construction helpful (deep foundations, etc).
• Experience coordinating with subcontractors on a construction site.

Responsibilities

• Prepare CAD drawings with Project Engineer's support.
• Assist with engineering evaluations including design foundations and retaining walls.
• Support QA/QC and submittals.
• Review field construction problems and resolve discrepancies.
• Collaborate with project team to meet requirements.

Position: Construction Engineering Technician (CAD Operator/Design)

Travel: Some travel required - primary location Berryville, VA

Pay Range: $25-35 hourly or $50K-70K annually

Job summary

We are seeking a Construction Engineering Technician or Junior Engineer to join our Geotechnical Group. The individual must be a team player, motivated to learn and develop in a structural/geotechnical design build specialty group. Experience in civil, structural and/or geotechnical engineering is preferred. This role will aid in cad drawings, drawing and spec reviews, material ordering and other engineering related tasks. This individual will provide assistance to the lead Engineer and/or Project Manager as well as support engineering team conducting geotechnical engineering evaluations that includes ground improvement, deep foundations, micropiles, drilled shafts, retaining wall systems etc. Proficient with computer programs (Excel, AutoCAD, Microsoft). Capable of working independently.

Qualifications

• Minimum Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree. Internship and on‑site job experience can be substituted, as well as certification program for CAD or similar
• Experience in structural and/or geotechnical construction helpful (deep foundation work, excavation, shoring, drilled shafts, pile driving, etc).
• Experience in scheduling, coordinating, and communicating with subcontractors on a construction site preferred.
• Familiar with instrumentation, earthwork and retention systems, geotechnical construction such as micro‑pile drilling, lagging walls, temporary shoring and all other earth retention work related to the group.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail‑oriented

Essential Functions

• Prepare designs with Project Engineer’s support and develop drawings for field use
• Support engineering and management team conducting engineering evaluations that include design foundations and retaining wall systems (temporary and permanent)
• Willing to assist project manager on related project requirement (QA/QC and performance of the engineering system).
• Prepare Cad drawings per Project team’s requirements
• Assist with submittals.
• Reviews, analyzes, and resolves field construction problems, discrepancies, or interferences with contractors.
• Ability to multitask and work as a group and on individual basis.

Physical Requirements of the Essential Functions

• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
• Must be able to bend, squat, and kneel occasionally throughout a scheduled work shift.
• Must be able to climb ladders.
• Continuous standing and walking required throughout a scheduled work shift at project sites as needed.
• Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
• Acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing required.
