Job summary
Baxter & Woodman in Mokena IL is seeking a Construction Engineering Intern to support transportation, water and wastewater projects. You will participate in field observations and work alongside firm clients.
Responsibilities include assisting engineers with field work, design tasks for water, wastewater, transportation and stormwater projects, and gaining hands-on experience in quantity computation, layout, surveying and construction inspection.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a 4-year Civil Engineering degree with construction emphasis.
- Available to start May 2027.
- Willing to travel within Baxter & Woodman service area.
- Own transportation available for site visits.
- Team-oriented with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Willing to work outdoors and in varying conditions.
- Full-time availability: 40 hours per week.
- Able to identify and solve problems promptly.
Responsibilities

About the role
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Construction Intern in our Mokena IL office starting May 2027 This on the job experience will support the firms transportation water and wastewater departments by participating in the field observation of a variety of projects and an opportunity to work directly with firm clients Assignments may involve roadway reconstructions structural bridges and walls improvements water and stormwater infrastructure construction and sanitary sewer projects The Intern will be actively involved in the oversight of construction earning valuable experience in the civil engineering field
Construction services associated with quantity computation construction layout survey and construction inspection Assist engineers with field work evaluation studies and design related to water wastewater transportation storm sewer potable water sanitary sewer and treatment plant rehabilitation and improvement projects
Ongoing pursuit of a 4 year degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in construction engineering
- Available to start May 2027
- Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodman service area

The hourly pay for this role is 2300 Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate including but not limited to skill set depth of experience and certifications
