Job summary

American Water is seeking a Construction Engineering Internship to provide hands-on experience in water utilities. You will work with a team of engineers to support water and wastewater projects, learn permitting, design, and startup processes, and gain exposure to capital investments.

Enrollment in an Engineering undergraduate program (Civil/Construction/Mechanical) is preferred, with a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an engineering undergraduate degree program (Civil/Construction/Mechanical preferred).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check.
• Detail-oriented, independent, and collaborative with strong communication.
• Experience with AutoCAD or ArcGIS is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Gain firsthand experience in how water utilities support communities and sustainability.
• Collaborate with engineers to develop water supply plans, asset management plans, and support various engineering and construction projects for the company’s water and wastewater systems.
• Provide engineering support to both engineers and operational staff.
• Work with Senior Engineers in the Project Delivery Team and assist with the delivery of water/wastewater capital investment projects (design, permitting, construction, startup).
• Work with Senior Engineers in the Planning Team and assist with hydraulic modeling, planning reports, and recommendations.

Position Information

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. The expected pay range for this position is between $18.00 per hour and $28.00 per hour. Primary Role

Construction Engineering Internship.

Key Accountabilities

• Gain firsthand experience in how water utilities support communities and ensure sustainability.
• Collaborate with a team of engineers to develop water supply plans, asset management plans, and support various engineering and construction projectsfor the company’s water and wastewater systems.
• Provide engineering support to both engineers and operational staff.
• Work with Senior Engineers in the Project Delivery Team and assist with the delivery of water / wastewater capital investment projects. This includesdesign, permitting, construction and startup. Projects could include new or upgraded water storage tanks, pump stations, pipelines, and water / wastewatertreatment plants.
• Work with Senior Engineers in the Planning Team and assist them with completing engineering tasks such as building/calibration hydraulic modeling for awater distribution system, demand projections, asset condition and performance assessments, and preparing planning reports and recommendations.

• Detail-Oriented: Conduct thorough analyses and evaluations and implement timely decisions and recommendations.

• Technical Proficiency: Good working knowledge of computer programs, databases, and software.

• Previous experience with AutoCAD, or ArcGIS is a plus.

Experience/Education

• Enrollment in an Engineering undergraduate degree program, Civil, Construction, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

• Valid Driver’s License.
• Ability to pass a background check.
