Job summary

FlatironDragados internship program invites college students in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management to work with seasoned professionals. You will assist a Construction Engineer and Senior CAD Designer to create drawings, tolerances, dimensions, and project data as part of real-world assignments.

You will help prepare preliminary designs, analyze sketches, and identify locations needing engineering.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Engineering, Construction Management, Virtual Design or a similar program at an accredited technical college or university.
• Proficient in producing technical drawings with attention to tolerances and specifications.
• Ability to analyze sketches and determine best approach to drawings using internal software.

Responsibilities

• Produce drawings including tolerances, dimensions, materials, and data based on feedback and design specs.
• Prepare preliminary designs for review by Construction Engineer team.
• Analyze input materials to determine best approach for drawings.
• Identify locations/structures needing engineering attention.
• Evaluate layouts to ensure compliance with requirements and standards.
• Draft detailed drawings describing construction design intent and critical elements.
• Calculate quantities and dimensions within standard practice.
• Draft plans for temporary works (falsework, shoring, etc.) for constructability and cost efficiency.
• Submit designs for peer/review timely; await sealing by senior engineer or manager.

Work and train with the industry's finest professionals! FlatironDragados' Intern Program provides challenging and rewarding work opportunities for college students majoring in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Construction Management.

The Construction Engineering Group focuses on the “how” when it comes to constructing the work. This team of specialized engineers has extensive experience in designing and constructing various temporary works.

What You Will Be Doing

• Works alongside and under the guidance of a Construction Engineer and/or Senior CAD Designer to produce drawings including tolerances, dimensions, materials, and technical project data based on feedback and design specifications
• Helps prepare preliminary designs in accordance with construction means and methods to be reviewed and calculated by the Construction Engineer team.
• Analyzes sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine best approach to complete drawings using internal software and programs.
• Identifies locations and/or structures that need engineering.
• Evaluates layout drawings at the direction of leadership to ensure drawings comply with engineering requirements, Company standards, and project contract specifications.
• Helps build detailed drawings to accurately and completely describe construction design intent and critical elements.
• Calculates quantities and dimensions within procedural and standard practice limitations.
• Drafts design plans for temporary works (falsework, shoring, temporary bridges, formwork, slopes, etc.), ensuring completeness and accuracy with regulatory standards and within the contract specifications.
• Helps design temporary construction elements ensuring ease of constructability, cost effectiveness with materials onsite or purchased, balancing between optimization and feasibility of onsite project construction.
• Submits design for peer review or approval review in an accurate and timely manner to avoid construction delays on the project site. Senior engineer or manager to seal designs following approval review.
