Job summary

CBS² in Madison, WI seeks a Construction Engineer to support construction-phase services for transportation, WisDOT, municipal, and civil infrastructure projects. You will assist with on-site inspections, documentation, contractor coordination, and review of work for conformance with plans and standards.

This full-time role reports to the Construction Team Leader and collaborates with project leaders, engineers, inspectors, survey staff, contractors, and clients while expanding expertise in

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years of related civil engineering, construction inspection, or infrastructure experience.
• Engineer-in-Training certification, or willingness to obtain and progress toward PE licensure.
• Familiarity with construction administration, Civil design principles, and plan/spec interpretation.
• Familiarity with WisDOT construction processes, documentation, standards, and AASHTOWare Project/AWP or related systems.
• Experience with Bluebeam or related document review/markup tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
• Ability to coordinate effectively with contractors, clients, project leaders, engineers, inspectors, and internal staff.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Ability to travel to project sites and work overtime as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction-phase services for transportation, WisDOT, municipal, and related civil infrastructure projects.
• Perform onsite inspections and field observations to verify work compliance with plans, specs, and standards.
• Coordinate with contractors, clients, project leaders, engineers, inspectors, and internal staff on field issues and updates.
• Prepare and maintain construction documentation including daily reports, field notes, quantities, photos, and records.
• Support project leaders with coordination, documentation, and contractor communications.
• Assist with WisDOT construction administration processes, including documentation and use of AASHTOWare Project/AWP.
• Provide backup support to Construction Project Leaders as needed.
• Assist with survey field work, staking, measurements, and use of survey equipment.
• Review project plans, specifications, quantities, and construction details for accurate delivery.
• Assist with design and plan development for transportation and municipal projects when workload requires.
• Utilize Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and related design/construction software.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
