Job summary

Shimmick seeks an experienced Construction Engineer based in Glendale, CA to support the North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit Project. The role involves performing engineering tasks, preparing drawings, and assisting with field inspections and construction administration to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

You will work under supervision of a project manager, coordinate with teams, and help with project reporting and budgets. Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related field; 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in heavy civil projects (roadway/bridge/rail/transit).
  • Ability to read plans, specs and technical documents; OSHA knowledge and safety standards.

Construction Engineer – Shimmick’s Southwest Division

Shimmick's Southwest Division is seeking an experienced Construction Engineer to be based in Glendale, CA and support our North Hollywood to Pasadena Bus Rapid Transit Project.

Southwest Division Shimmick's Southwest Division, headquartered in Irvine, California, focuses on large public owners in Southern California, across water resources, water treatment, transportation, and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $828 million Gerald Desmond Bridge, the first cable-stayed vehicular bridge in California.

Responsibilities
  • Performing assignments that require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria's to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Exercising judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Preparing engineering related calculations and developing drawings and visual aids.
  • Assisting with field inspections to evaluate the work performed and materials used.
  • Assisting with construction administration and documentation of deficiencies and deviations from plans.
  • Working under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
  • Researching and compiling project information for reporting, marketing, and funding requests.
  • Creating and maintaining centralized files for project records (including digital).
  • Coordinating logistics and meetings for project managers.
  • Helping in the preparation of reports, including monthly development reports.
  • Assisting with community outreach duties as needed.
  • Attending neighborhood, community, and project meetings.
  • Undertaking tasks as may be assigned by project managers.
  • Having a clear understanding of the budget and assist in the creation of and adherence to project and development budgets.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or a related field + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Prior heavy civil project experience (Roadway, bridge, rail/transit, etc.).
  • Experience in heavy civil construction with an understanding of construction methods, means, and materials.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in outdoor and high-paced field environments.
Additional Information
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

The salary range for this position is between $105,000 - $130,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.

These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage as well as EAP services.
