Job summary

TechStar Group seeks an experienced civil/structural professional for a 12-month contract in Texas. You will lead installation, testing and handover activities, ensuring adherence to codes and safety standards.

The role requires strong design experience, construction management skills, and familiarity with automotive facilities. You will coordinate with contractors, vendors and internal teams to meet project milestones and safety commitments.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience.
  • 2+ years in construction management.
  • Automotive experience with engine, transmission, or vehicle facilities.
  • 5+ years in architectural, civil and/or structural design.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate architectural, civil and structural installations and commissioning activities.
  • Review product and equipment submittals, shop drawings and design drawings.
  • Ensure safety procedures and OSHA compliance for civil/structural work.
  • Adhere to building codes (IBC, NEC, NFPA, ASME, etc.).
  • Coordinate equipment factory testing, delivery, installation and handover.
  • Schedule and coordinate weekend/plant shutdown work with stakeholders.
  • Conduct progress inspections and document status for PMs.
  • Support construction administration incl. schedule coordination and outages.
  • Inspect civil/structural systems for compliance with specs and codes.
  • Oversee contractor work and ensure delivery milestones and coordination.
  • Prepare field engineering status reports for Project Managers.
  • Provide input to improve project specifications and standards.
  • Communicate technical matters clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Multitask and manage time to meet deadlines.

Job description

12 Months contract with possible extension

Overtime: 20%

Travel: 30%

Job Description:
  • 1. Facilitate architectural, civil and structural installations (foundations, steel erection, etc.) & commissioning activities.
  • 2. Provide subject matter expert assistance in review of product and equipment submittals, shop drawings, engineering design drawings and specifications, & contractor generated RFIs.
  • 3. Extensive knowledge of safety procedures, safe work practices, and OSHA requirements for civil and structural installations including but not limited to Lock-Out, Electrical Safe Work Practices, Control of Hazardous Energy, & arc flash safety.
  • 4. Possess extensive knowledge of prevailing building codes and professional industry standards (including but not limited to: IBC, NEC, NESC, NFPA, ASME, AMCA, ARI, AWS, ASHRAE, FM).
  • 5. Work with building construction contractors and equipment vendors to coordinate equipment factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning & handover to end users.
  • 6. Coordination of weekend and plant shutdown work with contractors, plant facilities groups, & manufacturing shops.
  • 7. Conduct work progress inspections on a continuous basis.
  • 8. Support construction administration activities related to schedule coordination, quality confirmations, weekly coordination meetings, and planned utility outages.
  • 9. Conduct inspections and observations of civil and structural building systems for compliance with project specifications quality standards, & applicable codes.
  • 10. Oversee work of civil and structural contractors for adherence to project delivery methods, schedule milestone targets, & coordination with other groups.
  • 11. Prepare field engineering status reports of work progress and schedule to Project Managers.
  • 12. Provide input and feedback to improve project technical specifications and standards.
  • 13. Ability to effectively communicate technical matters in written & verbal formats.
  • 14. Ability to multi-task, manage time, & prioritize project commitments based on established deadlines and project milestones.
Required Qualifications:
  • 1. 5-10 years of experience
  • 2. 2+ years in construction management.
  • 4. Automotive experience with engine, transmission, or vehicle facilities or similar industrial manufacturer.
  • 5. 5+ years in architectural, civil and/or structural design field.
