Job summary

Thornton Tomasetti in New York is seeking a Structural Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of design and construction. You will support temporary works, erection strategies, and steel connection solutions in a global context while developing practical construction engineering skills with a collaborative team.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in civil, structural, or construction engineering programs with strong academics and familiarity with CAD/BIM tools

Qualifications

Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering.
Strong academic record and interest in structural engineering and construction.
Familiarity with structural analysis software and CAD/BIM tools (such as Revit, Tekla, or AutoCAD) is a plus.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the analysis, design, and detailing of temporary works and construction engineering solutions, including formwork, falsework, shoring, and erection systems for complex building and infrastructure projects.
Assist with steel connection design and detailing, gaining exposure to real load paths, fabrication constraints and field considerations.
Support development of construction sequencing plans, stability analyses, and erection strategies.
Prepare construction engineering documents, calculations, and drawings within a BIM environment, gaining hands‑on experience with industry‑standard tools, workflows, and advanced modeling techniques.
