Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an Electrical Engineer I/II to join our Solar Team and provide electrical technical support across construction projects. The role involves technical leadership, design review, and coordination with utilities on interconnection.

This position offers two levels (I and II) with compensation based on experience and location. It requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and relevant construction management or design experience; travel is 100% with rotation among sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum two years in electrical construction management or electrical design
  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code preferred
  • Strong teamworkorientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
  • Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  • Minimum three years in electrical construction management or electrical design
  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code a plus
  • Basic understanding of construction techniques and project management practices

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical lead and support for electrical portions of work project
  • Determine best layout of collection system; including consideration of constraints such as overhead/underground, follow roads/cross country, and junction box locations
  • Review manufacturer's data to determine extent of scope for electrical portion of project; including wiring requirements and electrical characteristics (i.e. grounding requirements, power factor ranges, lightning protection requirements, generator outputs, etc.)
  • Verify that construction agrees with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and QA/QC
  • Manage and lead the electrical engineering design and equipment procurement through use of submittals, transmittals, and requests for information
  • Provide technical expertise to all parties concerned
  • Ensure subcontractors understand the scope of project during bidding process and provide electrical engineering resources throughout the project
  • Communicate with local utilities to ensure the project can interconnect to the electrical grid
  • Perform loss calculations (100% output/annualized)

Location: Texas

Travel: This is a 100% travel position; working on a rotation schedule; locations may vary based on the project. Mortenson hires for a career and not a project. When your project is complete you will be assigned to another project.

Electrical Engineer I
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Previous related internship experience a plus
  • The base pay range for this role is $80,900 - $109,300
Electrical Engineer II
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
    • Minimum two years in electrical construction management or electrical design
  • The base pay range for this role is $91,700 - $123,800

(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%)

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
