Job summary

Value Added Solutions, Inc. in the United States is seeking a Construction Discipline Engineer (Civil Field Engineer) to oversee field construction activities, review designs for constructability, and ensure compliance with drawings, specs and codes while coordinating with design engineers and QA.

Responsibilities include leading risk analyses, developing work execution plans, material take-offs, procurement support, and field inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering or equivalent with 5+ years field experience
  • Experience creating work execution plans and hazards analysis
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and constructability reviews

Responsibilities

  • Design output constructability reviews and verify field conditions vs. design
  • Lead field walk downs with design engineers and verify material availability
  • Develop/work execution plans, installation sequences and check records
  • Prepare/coordinate material take-offs, BOMs and procurement support
  • Coordinate permits, safety checks and hazard analyses for field work
  • Perform field inspections and resolve installation issues

Job Title: Construction Discipline Engineer (Civil Field Engineer)

Position Description

Field Engineer is responsible for planning and technical oversight of field construction activities within a specified discipline associated with procurement, fabrication, installation, modification and maintenance of systems and components. Coordinates with Design agencies to ensure timely issuance of new design or design changes. Walk down and review designs for constructability, resolve design problems encountered in the field during construction and meet with and discuss solutions with Design Engineers. Inspects / verify materials, equipment, and construction workmanship and assures compliance with drawings, specifications and code requirements. Coordinates with Quality Control to ensure the installation meets the requirements. participates in turnover activities. Supports / participates in start-up and functional check out of equipment and systems.

Position requires a thorough understanding of Construction Engineering principles and ability to apply these principles to field conditions. Experience in the preparation of computer-based construction work execution plans (work Packages) including job specific hazards analysis, i.e. Asset Suite and Assisted Hazard Analysis or equivalent

Position Responsibilities

  • Review design output and vendor documents

Field material take-off & procurement support
  • Develop / expedite bill of materials (BOM)
  • Track the progress / status of material delivery
  • Coordinate delivery of material to the field
  • Verification of received material vs. Ordered material
Work execution plan development
  • Walk downs with craft supervision & support groups
  • Develop installation sequence
  • Generate work instructions
  • Generate inspection and test records or coordinate with quality control
  • Understand layout / survey needs and generate layout / survey requests
  • Generate hazards analysis for field execution of construction scope
  • Support/lead team hazard analysis review meetings

Work Execution Field Coverage & Support
  • Lead pre-job briefings with craft workers
  • Perform task ready walk down with craft supervision
  • Verify quantities of installed commodities
  • Coordinate daily field support
  • Expedite / order material as required
  • Coordinate material testing
  • Coordinate and status shop fabrication in support of field execution
  • Perform field inspections
  • Identify and coordinate resolution of field installation issues
Work Execution Plan Closure
  • Generate design completion notices
  • Ensure accuracy of work execution plan status
  • Close all required permits
  • Close work execution plan documentation
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering and at least 5 years of practical experience in construction Civil field engineering or
  • Associate's degree in Civil engineering and 5-10 years of practical experience in construction Civil engineering or
  • High school diploma and 10+ years of practical experience in construction Civil engineering
  • Working knowledge of discipline specific codes and standards
  • Previous experience with generating work execution plans (preferably utilizing the Asset Suite work control system)
  • Previous experience with generating job hazards analysis
  • Previous experience performing material take off and procurement
Additional Position Requirements
Work hours
  • A 40-hour work week is scheduled. Construction utilizes a 10 hour per day - four days per week schedule.
  • A standard work week is Monday through Thursday 6:30am - 5:00pm. However, alternate schedules could be employed.
  • Work week excludes SRS holidays.
Security
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license
  • Personal vehicles operated by candidate must have valid registration
  • Personal vehicles operated by candidates must be insured with proof of insurance within the vehicle
  • Familiar with National codes and standards (i.e. AISC, ACI) and possess the ability to interpret and analyze these requirements to determine equivalent means of achieving compliance when necessary
  • Experienced with excavation, shoring, rigging calculations and development of ordinary and critical lift packages
  • Experienced with structural steel fabrication and erection
  • Experienced with concrete placement
  • Knowledge of SRS guides and standards for concrete placement and protective coatings would be a plus
  • Capable of climbing / spending extended periods of time in the field
  • Capable of obtaining qualifications to work in radiation / contamination areas
