The City of Rocky Mount is seeking a Construction and Maintenance Supervisor to lead a crew in the maintenance and construction of the City’s paved streets and rights-of-way. You will plan work, assign duties, and ensure safety while overseeing equipment and material needs.
Responsibilities include supervising repairs, guiding staff, operating asphalt-related machinery, maintaining reports, and coordinating major asphalt projects. After-hours duties during emergencies are also part of the role.

This position is responsible supervising and participating in the work of an assigned crew of personnel in the maintenance and construction of City paved streets and rights-of-way.
The Construction and Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results.
Guidelines include the Personnel Policy Manual; emergency response plans; OSHA regulations; work zone safety standards; and equipment operation and repair manuals. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
The work consists of related supervisory and maintenance duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the work.
The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in the construction and maintenance of the City’s streets and public rights-of-way.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, members of the public, contractors, and vendors.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, and motivate and influence persons.
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, stooping, standing, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
The work is typically performed outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
This position has direct supervision over an assigned crew of personnel.
