Job Description: Crew Member - In-Water Hand Dredging

Bayside Dredging is seeking a safe, dependable, and hardworking In-Water Hand Dredging Crew Member who is able to travel for our Residential and Commercial Projects. This position offers a great opportunity to join our team and perform specialized work, with potential to advance to foreman after sufficient training and experience. The primary responsibilities include:

  1. Preparing construction sites, materials, and tools.
  2. Reviewing documents and plans.
  3. Being comfortable working in water for job setup and hand dredging.
  4. Assisting Heavy Equipment Operators with transport, movement, and rigging of equipment.
  5. Working with surveyor layouts and cutsheets to determine line and grades.
  6. Performing work as shown on contract drawings.
  7. Planning ahead to ensure materials are onsite when needed.
  8. Communicating with site Foreman, PM, or Superintendent.
  9. Planning activity sequences in and out of water.
  10. Maintaining a clean and safe work site by removing debris.
  11. Assembling and breaking down hoses, barricades, temporary structures, and pumps.
  12. Complying with safety rules, regulations, and permits.
  13. Assisting with mobilizations and demobilizations as needed.
  14. Working independently and as part of a team.
  15. Monitoring safety issues and implementing necessary changes.
  16. Adjusting work procedures to meet production schedules.
  17. Resolving work problems.
  18. Maintaining accurate time and production records.
  19. Working outdoors in all weather conditions; wetsuits are provided for warmth and protection; water booties/shoes need to be purchased.
  20. Working or walking on uneven ground or onboard floating equipment regularly.

Qualifications and requirements include:

  1. Motivated, punctual, and able to work independently or with others.
  2. Availability for 40 hours per week, with potential overtime.
  3. Valid driver’s license.
  4. High school diploma or GED.
  5. Knowledge of construction and road safety regulations.
  6. Ability to operate heavy equipment is a plus.
  7. Ability to troubleshoot hoses, hydraulic issues, and read tide gauges (training provided).
  8. Must be able to travel.
  9. Marine construction experience and OSHA certifications are pluses.
  10. Comfortable working in water, typically up to 6 ft deep.

Physical demands and work environment:

  1. Regular use of hands, sitting, talking, and hearing.
  2. Frequent reaching, occasional working underwater without seeing.
  3. Occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  4. Lift up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
