Job Description: Crew Member - In-Water Hand Dredging
Bayside Dredging is seeking a safe, dependable, and hardworking In-Water Hand Dredging Crew Member who is able to travel for our Residential and Commercial Projects. This position offers a great opportunity to join our team and perform specialized work, with potential to advance to foreman after sufficient training and experience. The primary responsibilities include:
- Preparing construction sites, materials, and tools.
- Reviewing documents and plans.
- Being comfortable working in water for job setup and hand dredging.
- Assisting Heavy Equipment Operators with transport, movement, and rigging of equipment.
- Working with surveyor layouts and cutsheets to determine line and grades.
- Performing work as shown on contract drawings.
- Planning ahead to ensure materials are onsite when needed.
- Communicating with site Foreman, PM, or Superintendent.
- Planning activity sequences in and out of water.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work site by removing debris.
- Assembling and breaking down hoses, barricades, temporary structures, and pumps.
- Complying with safety rules, regulations, and permits.
- Assisting with mobilizations and demobilizations as needed.
- Working independently and as part of a team.
- Monitoring safety issues and implementing necessary changes.
- Adjusting work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Resolving work problems.
- Maintaining accurate time and production records.
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions; wetsuits are provided for warmth and protection; water booties/shoes need to be purchased.
- Working or walking on uneven ground or onboard floating equipment regularly.
Qualifications and requirements include:
- Motivated, punctual, and able to work independently or with others.
- Availability for 40 hours per week, with potential overtime.
- Valid driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of construction and road safety regulations.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment is a plus.
- Ability to troubleshoot hoses, hydraulic issues, and read tide gauges (training provided).
- Must be able to travel.
- Marine construction experience and OSHA certifications are pluses.
- Comfortable working in water, typically up to 6 ft deep.
Physical demands and work environment:
- Regular use of hands, sitting, talking, and hearing.
- Frequent reaching, occasional working underwater without seeing.
- Occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Lift up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
