Construction Crew Leader

For one year, get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make an impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.

  • Typically serve Tuesday – Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction, home repair, and volunteer services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: Based in Longmont, CO our service area stretches from the Plains to the Mountains, including Estes Park at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park. We are close enough to Denver to take advantage of big-city amenities, if that's your thing. Easy access to the mountains offers plenty of quiet time on trails and in the great outdoors. We work in a small city (Longmont), as well as nearby rural towns--we offer a little bit of everything! AmeriCorps alumni say Colorado is a great place to serve because of all the free outdoor activities that are accessible right from your doorstep, not to mention the 300+ days of sunshine!   • Unique projects: Construction crew leaders will be part of our effort to build all-electric, energy-efficient homes using advanced Green Building techniques; all our homes are built to Energy Star standards. Our affiliate has just begun construction in a new development this spring; the AmeriCorps members will be able to work on homes from start to finish and see the neighborhood grow around them. Our critical home repair program also engages Construction crew leads in unique and challenging repair projects where every home & homeowner has specific requirements to improve safety, energy savings and accessibility.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
