Construction Crew Leader

For one year, you can get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.

What will you do?

The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skilled and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.


  • Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
  • Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
  • Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
  • Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
  • Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.

This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

  • Activities and attractions: Habitat Flathead is located in Northwest Montana. The Flathead Valley is home to Glacier National Park, Flathead Lake, two ski resorts, unlimited trails for hiking, countless lakes and streams, outstanding arts and culture, charming small towns, and warm western hospitality. Kalispell is a small (< 30,000 residents) mountain town that offers a balance of city life and outdoor adventure with museums, theater, community events, and unlimited nearby recreational opportunities. Kalispell is 30 minutes to Glacier National Park, a vast wilderness area with spectacular glacier-carved peaks and valleys, glacier-fed lakes and streams, and abundant wildlife. The park maintains more than 700 miles of trails, other activities include backpacking, cycling, camping, and national park programming.
  • Unique projects: Habitat Flathead itself is a unique project, with its vast rural areas and communities and recent population growth, which has led to a critical deficit in affordable housing for the Flathead Valley's workforce. AmeriCorps members will be engaged in unique projects because we have invested in our construction team and new construction technologies. We are embarking on a massive project to develop 21 acres of land, including infrastructure, in a beautiful location near schools and sports fields. This property is a game changer for affordable housing in the Flathead Valley, and the project is in its infancy. It is exciting and there is so much to learn as we move forward. We are exploring community collaborations and partnerships, developing donor relationships, and strategically designing and developing this space. Our AmeriCorps member will have the opportunity work on and be a part of this Habitat development from the ground up. The learning opportunities are endless! Minimum Requirements

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.
