City of Wilmington, NC seeks a Construction Crew Leader to guide street crews, plan work methods, and supervise site activities. The role involves setting up work zones, operating equipment, and ensuring safety and quality in a dynamic urban environment.
Candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED, 3+ years of heavy equipment experience, and a CDL (Class B) with potential to obtain Class A within 90 days. Outdoor work, exposure to weather, and physical tasks are expected.

The work you do on our Streets Maintenance team directly impacts the safety and accessibility of our community every day. From repairing potholes and damaged pavement to maintaining sidewalks, curbs, and public rights-of-way, you'll help ensure residents, businesses, and visitors can travel safely throughout the city.

The purpose of this position is to serve as a leader to construction/street crews. This is done by planning work methods and procedures after assignments are given. These tasks include work site setup, work zone safety, traffic control, hazard observation, following procedures and guidelines, employee supervision, assisting with work, etc. Other duties include training subordinates, operating light, medium and heavy equipment and performing preventive maintenance.

High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum three (3) years of related heavy equipment experience.
Selected applicants will be required to perform a heavy machinery skills test that will be a factor in the hiring of this position.

Health Benefits are offered to employees working at least 30 hours per week.
The City offers two options for health coverage: a standard PPO plan and a High Deductible Health Plan with an associated Health Savings Account. Coverage becomes effective the first day of the month following hire for employees and their eligible dependents. Both you and the City contribute to the overall cost of coverage.

The city pays to provide coverage valued at one times your annual salary. Supplemental insurance is available for employees to purchase. Optional coverage for dependents is also available for purchase.
Note: The City of Wilmington is on a bi-weekly pay cycle. New employees should expect to receive their first paycheck approximately 4 weeks after their start date.
