SkyTECH Staffing Solutions is seeking a hands-on Construction Controller to own the day-to-day construction accounting in Elmsford, NY, working directly in the accounting system, reviewing project financials, managing billing and job costing, and identifying errors. Job Title: Hands-On Construction Controller

We are a growing New York construction company looking for a hands-on Construction Controller who can take ownership of the day-to-day construction accounting function.

This is a sole-contributor role, not a traditional corporate Controller position. You will be expected to work directly in the accounting system, review project financials, manage billing and job costing, identify errors, and provide the Owner with a clear view of project profitability and cash flow.

You will also oversee the work of an offshore accounting team and ensure construction accounting and compliance work is accurate and complete.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and maintain monthly WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Manage job costing and monitor project margins, costs and cost-to-complete.
• Prepare and submit AIA G702/G703 progress billings.
• Manage accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding construction payments.
• Review subcontractor payments, lien waivers and Certificates of Insurance.
• Review construction accounting work completed by the offshore team and maintain strong quality control.
• Analyze change orders, including actual labor burden and allowable project costs.
• Support subcontractor and construction compliance, including applicable NY labor and tax requirements.
• Prepare cash-flow forecasts and project financial analysis for the Owner.
• Identify accounting, billing and project-cost issues before they become financial problems.

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 3 years in construction accounting.
• Direct experience with HPD construction projects.
• Strong hands-on experience with WIP, percentage-of-completion and job costing.
• Experience preparing AIA G702/G703 billings.
• Understanding of construction retainage, lien waivers, COIs and insurance requirements.
• Experience reviewing construction change orders and calculating labor burden.
• Familiarity with certified payroll is strongly preferred.
• Experience with QuickBooks Advanced, Sage, Procore or comparable construction/accounting systems.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Comfortable working independently in a small-company environment where you are expected to do the work, not just supervise it.

Important

This position is fully onsite in Elmsford, NY. We are specifically looking for someone from a construction accounting background. A corporate Controller whose experience is primarily financial reporting, FP&A, treasury, or managing a large accounting department without hands-on construction accounting experience would not be a fit.
