Job summary

D.R. Horton, America’s Builder, is seeking a Construction Area Manager to supervise a team of General Superintendents and Project Managers within a designated region.

You will direct field activities, manage build schedules, and ensure homes are built to contract specifications while controlling costs and maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum seven years of related construction experience.
• Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods and project management.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents and schedules.
• Knowledge of municipal permitting, regulations, and building codes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage costs and budgets.
• Proficiency with DRH Construction applications on mobile devices and MS Office.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Plan and direct construction activities in the field with Project Managers, General Superintendents and Superintendents.
• Set build times on each plan and provide schedules to meet build times.
• Maintain profitability of homes and manage field costs via purchase orders.
• Develop and train Project Managers and field staff.
• Oversee field operations and ensure quality control to meet standards.
• Ensure construction complies with contracts, specs and is 100% complete.
• Enforce safety standards per OSHA and state regulations.
• Visit job sites to check quality and policy compliance.
• Interface with public agencies and utilities for permits and approvals.
• Assist other Construction Area Managers as needed.
• Address escalated issues with subcontractors.
• Respond to survey feedback to drive quality improvements.
• Conduct business professionally to serve customers and the company.
• Willingness to travel overnight.

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Construction Area Manager. The right candidate will supervise a group of General Superintendents, Superintendents and/or Project Managers assigned to communities in a designated area regarding construction field-related activities. Implement all company policies and procedures throughout the entire construction process. Update reports and ensure quality control in the houses built.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and direct construction activities in the field either directly or through utilizing Project Managers, General Superintendents and Superintendents
• Set build times on each plan and provide schedules to meet the build times
• Maintain responsibility for the profitability of the homes being built in assigned communities and manage all cost by reviewing field purchase orders
• Maintain total involvement with training, communication and development of Project Managers, General Superintendents, Superintendents and field personnel
• Oversee field operations, production times and ensure quality control so the homes built meet company standards and are ready for homeowner orientation/occupancy
• Ensure all homes in construction area are constructed to contract, specification and detail and all work invoiced is fully acceptable to company specifications and is 100% complete
• Ensure assigned communities meet all safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations
• Visit job sites to check quality and policy enforcement
• Interface, when necessary, with public agencies, municipal governing bodies, public utilities and industry associations in obtaining permits and approvals
• Assist other Construction Area Managers
• Handle escalated problems with subcontractors
• Respond to unsatisfactory survey cards for construction and customer service to direct quality improvement efforts
• Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
• Ability to travel overnight

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Supervises 2 or more employees

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Seven years of related experience and/or training
• Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
• High degree of construction knowledge and management skills
• Ability to read, understand and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedules
• General knowledge of municipal permitting, regulations and building codes
• Ability to converse with customers, all levels of management and personnel
• Superb interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated commitment to customer satisfaction
• Ability to control cost overruns and manage a budget
• Ability to utilize DRH Construction applications on a smart phone, tablet, or laptop
• Proficiency with MS Office and email
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred
• Work effectively in a high pressure and high production environment
• English/Spanish bilingual skills a plus
