Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. is seeking a Construction Administrator to bridge owners, designers, and contractors from NTP through final inspection. You will keep documentation tight, coordinate rapid decisions, and ensure work aligns with plans and specs.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and has multiple years in construction and A/E settings, with strong communication and organizational skills. This is a full-time on-site role with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience OR 5 years of construction experience.
  • Experience managing projects in the A/E industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, documentation, and coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Administer contracts and documentation through full construction phase (submittals, RFIs, change orders, pay apps, inspections).
  • Serve as primary day-to-day contact between contractor and design team; coordinate decisions with owners.
  • Evaluate contractor proposals, bids, schedules, and changes; advise design team and owner.
  • Ensure compliance with owner-architect agreements and field execution.
  • Review plans to coordinate design intent with construction means/methods; resolve discrepancies.
  • Conduct regular site visits; document observations and progress with trade partners.
  • Coordinate start-up and commissioning touchpoints; track issues to closure.
  • Attend owner/contractor meetings; capture action items and follow through.

What You'll Do

As a Construction Administrator, you'll be the hub between owners, designers, and contractors during construction-making sure work conforms to the plans and specifications, coordinating decisions quickly, and keeping documentation tight from NTP through final inspection and start-up.

  • Administer contracts and documentation through the full construction phase-includingsubmittals, RFIs, change orders, pay apps, final inspection, and start-up.
  • Serve as primary day-to-day contact between contractor and design team; coordinate promptdecisions with owners' representatives.
  • Assist in evaluation of contractor proposals, bids, estimates, schedules, and change orders; advise the design team and owner on needed decisions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of owner-architect agreements and any additional serviceagreements; ensure compliance in field execution.
  • Review plans and specifications to coordinate design intent and construction means/methods;flag discrepancies and drive resolution.
  • Perform regular site visits to discuss activities, progress, and issues with superintendents andtrade partners; document observations.
  • Coordinate start-up and commissioning touchpoints with the client and contractor;communicate issues and track to closure.
  • Attend owner/contractor meetings; provide updates, capture action items, and follow throughon deliverables.
  • Meet with state, city, and county officials for construction review and code adherence asnecessary.
  • Help resolve conflicts with suppliers and contractors; escalates unusual conditions to the design team and owners' reps and facilitate solutions.
  • Review contractor and supplier pay applications for accuracy and conformance with progressand contract terms.
  • Ensure applicable quality procedures are executed timely on assigned projects; promote lessonslearned and continuous improvement.
Who We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline and threeyears of experience OR five years of experience in construction and applicable design
  • Experience managing projects in the A/E industry
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of engineering theories/methodologies, project approach, and system design;understanding of interrelationships among key disciplines.
  • Experience with multi-disciplined construction systems and projects; working knowledge ofapplicable codes and regulations.
  • Communication strengths: clear writing, strong speech clarity, and active listening to representdiverse viewpoints accurately.
  • Detail-oriented with sound judgment, problem solving, and decision-making; highly organizedwith strong follow-through.
