Job summary

McLaury Engineering is seeking a Construction Administration Staff Engineer to join our growing team in Sioux Falls, SD. You will work across transportation, municipal, utility, and private development projects, performing construction observation and preparing daily reports.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering (construction knowledge a plus); familiarity with DOT standards; and strong communication skills. Field and office work, with travel and a valid driver's license, are expected.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field required; construction/inspection experience preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of civil construction practices, plans, specs, and documentation.
• Familiarity with municipal and DOT construction standards and procedures.
• Experience with Microsoft Office; Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D beneficial.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and travel to project sites.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers, contractors, owners, agencies, and technicians during construction of transportation, municipal, utility, and private development projects.
• Perform construction observation to ensure work conforms with plans and specs.
• Prepare daily construction reports and maintain records of activities, quantities, materials, and progress.
• Review plans, specs, shop drawings, and other construction documents.
• Measure and document completed work; assist with quantity estimates, pay apps, change orders, and closeout documents.
• Assist with construction progress meetings and communicate issues to the project engineer, owner, and contractor.
• Coordinate construction staking, materials testing, and other field services.
• Assist with resolving field questions and construction-related issues; support field and office activities.

McLaury Engineering is currently seeking a Construction Administration Staff Engineer to join our growing engineering and construction administration group in Sioux Falls, SD.

Primary Responsibilities

As a Construction Administration Staff Engineer, your responsibilities would include:

• Working with engineers, contractors, owners, agencies, and technicians during the construction of transportation, municipal, utility, and private development projects
• Performing construction observation to evaluate whether work is completed in general conformance with project plans and specifications
• Preparing daily construction reports and maintaining accurate records of construction activities, quantities, materials, and project progress
• Reviewing plans, specifications, shop drawings, and other construction documents
• Measuring and documenting completed work and assisting with the preparation of quantity estimates, pay applications, change orders, and project closeout documents
• Assisting with construction progress meetings and communicating project issues to the project engineer, owner, and contractor
• Coordinating construction staking, materials testing, and other project-related field services
• Assisting with the resolution of field questions and construction-related issues
• Supporting construction administration activities in both field and office environments

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Previous construction, inspection, or engineering experience is preferred but not required.
• A working knowledge of civil construction practices, plans, specifications, and documentation
• An understanding of municipal and DOT construction standards and procedures
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and construction documentation software; experience with Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D is beneficial
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivation, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with engineers, contractors, clients, and the public
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to project sites as needed
• A valid driver’s license
