Qualifications

The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) is a nonprofit organization that provides high-quality assessment products, services, and research for the benefit and protection of the public and the legal profession. We assist state courts and licensing authorities with fulfilling their responsibility to determine minimal competence for entry to the legal profession.

The Constructed Response Content Specialist works with the assessment and development department to develop grading materials for constructed-response questions and aids in the preparation of grader training materials for the development of NCBE bar examination products.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Participates in range finding sessions to grade and evaluate bar examination grading materials (intermittent travel required)

  • Selects, drafts and/or edits benchmark answers for constructed-response questions, ensuring that an array of answer types are represented.

  • Drafts and/or edits annotations for benchmark answers for constructed-response questions, ensuring thoroughness and clarity.

  • Selects and/or edits validity answers for constructed-response questions

  • Selects answers to constructed-response questions and drafts annotations for those answers in order to build grader training materials

  • Assists editors with the creation and revision of rubrics to constructed-response questions

  • Assists in NCBE-led workshops to train bar examination graders

  • Follows security protocols

  • Other duties as assigned by the Constructed Responses Scoring Manager.


Required Qualifications:



  • Graduate of an ABA-approved law school and admitted to the bar in at least one jurisdiction.

  • One year of legal editing experience required.

  • Experience grading law school or bar examination answers required.

  • Proofreading experience is preferred.

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and SharePoint, and Chicago Manual of Style and AP style guidelines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.

  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency in work.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.








The Content Specialist may work remotely. NCBE will consider applicants from the following states: FL, IA, IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, MN, NC, NE, NJ, NM, NV, OK, PA, TX, WA, and WI.
