Constructability Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers, ensuring continual access to our customers through servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. We work on challenging problems involving numerous variables impacting the supply chain and seek talented individuals to join our diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. We are looking for a candidate with well-developed data center technical knowledge and practical construction and commissioning experience to help drive standards in our delivery process. Experience within a broad design and construction infrastructure environment is preferred.

Key job responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Global Constructability team, Design Engineering, and Construction Management to ensure consistent approaches
• Establish practical constructability standards in design documentation
• Improve commissionability in designs
• Enhance processes for handoff from design to construction/commissioning
• Optimize engineering input after design completion, defining roles, responsibilities, and accountability
• Coordinate with regional engineering teams to ensure consistency
• Serve as the initial escalation point for complex constructability issues
• Travel regionally up to 25%, sometimes unexpectedly

A day in the life

As a Constructability Engineer, you will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from site selection to operations. You will act as a conduit between Design Engineering and other teams, providing pragmatic engineering support. You will identify and resolve delivery issues, requiring a thorough understanding of design and construction processes to develop robust solutions that align with AWS business interests.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering or similar construction-related discipline
• 5+ years in construction delivery
• 5+ years of data center technical knowledge with commissioning experience
• 10+ years in data center engineering
• In-depth understanding of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
