Job summary

Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, NY is seeking a Constant Observer to provide constant observation for patients requiring heightened monitoring. The role supports safety and patient care tasks on a part-time basis with evening (3p–11p) and night (11p–7a) shifts.

Minimum requirements include a Nursing Assistant Program or equivalent, a high school diploma or GED, and BLS certification; CPI training will be provided upon hire.

Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or equivalent preparation and/or experience required.
• High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
• Two (2) year College Degree related to psychology preferred
• 1 year of prior acute care experience preferred or CNA or completion of first clinical course in RN/LPN program.
• BLS certification current and ongoing required.
• Crisis Training (CPI) completion upon hire and annually thereafter; demonstrated competency of age-specific groups.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant observation for patients requiring increased level of observation.

The compensation range for the role is $27.08 - 27.89 hourly

• Evening shift differential: $1.10 / hour
• Night shift differential: $1.35 / hour

Qualifications

Required Certification/Registration:

• Completion of Organizations Crisis Training (CPI) upon hire and annually thereafter/ demonstrated competency of Age specific groups in assigned unit departments.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged extensive or considerable standing/walking/sitting.
• Safe patient handling protocols.
• Considerable reaching, stooping bending kneeling crouching.
• Ability to pass pre-hire physical assessment.

Working Conditions:

• Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. May have to sit in Isolation Rooms (must wear full PPE according to Infection Control Standards). May provide one to one or one to two monitoring in same room (for 2 to one) must be reviewed by Nursing Unit Director or Administrative Director of Nursing. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. May be exposed to unpleasant patient elements.
• Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.
• Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
