Job summary

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York seeks a Conservator to join the Department of Objects Conservation. You will collaborate on two monumental polychrome sculpture ensembles and a polychrome wood frame, documenting treatments per AIC guidelines and contributing to related research.

With at least two years of conservation experience, you will work independently and with colleagues, presenting findings to professional audiences and coordinating with scientific staff.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in conservation from an internationally recognized program.
• At least two years of conservation experience; museum experience preferred.
• Experience in the technical examination of painted surfaces.
• Understanding of stratigraphic analysis of painted and gilded surfaces.

Responsibilities

• Conserve the sculptural ensemble and architectural frame in coordination with a team of conservators.
• Contribute to examination and research for the two ensembles.
• Prepare visual and written documentation per AIC guidelines and department protocols.
• Disseminate activities and findings through lectures, print and digital publications.
