Job summary

The Dallas Zoo is seeking an entry-level, full-time Animal Operations team member to care for the Houston Toad colony and related facilities. Responsibilities include daily animal care, feeding, exhibit maintenance, enrichment through operant conditioning, and assisting with education presentations for visitors.

Contributions to conservation efforts with the USFW Houston Toad Recovery Program are expected, including propagation, rearing, and record-keeping.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in biology or related science field.
  • At least one year of exotic animal care experience at an AZA-accredited facility preferred (Houston Toads or similar taxa).
  • Flexible, efficient, self-motivated team player with problem-solving skills.
  • Strong observation skills and ability to document animal care activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care of assigned animals and exhibits to ensure health and welfare.
  • Prepare and provide food, water, and administer medications as instructed.
  • Maintain sanitation of exhibits, pens, and prep areas; perform pest control as needed.
  • Offer environmental enrichment and operant conditioning experiences.
  • Assist with capture, restraint, and transfers of various taxa including potentially dangerous species.
  • Update records and support research projects related to animal biology.
  • Perform exhibit maintenance and repairs as part of routine duties.
  • Assist with outreach and educational presentations to guests.
