Job summary

Southeast Alaska Land Trust is seeking a Stewardship Specialist or Manager to oversee stewardship of 44 conservation properties. The role combines site visits, reporting, and property maintenance with opportunities to lead new projects based on interests and skills.

About 70% of work is in office/remote settings and 30% in the field or at community events. Supervisory duties include volunteers and potentially a staff member; supervision reporting to the Executive Director.

Qualifications

• Degree and 3 years of experience OR 6+ years of experience in natural sciences, land management or related fields
• Strong communication skills with accuracy in reports
• Good trust-building and conflict resolution skills for property-related interactions
• Proficiency with ArcGIS and Microsoft Office
• Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for committee meetings or events
• Ability to work outdoors in challenging weather, hike several miles, and carry up to 30 lbs
• Preferred qualifications include supervisory experience and project management skills

Responsibilities

• Conduct field monitoring and documentation of SEALT conservation properties
• Complete detailed, accurate, and timely annual monitoring reports
• Verify compliance with conservation easements, deed restrictions, baseline documentation reports, and management plans
• Document potential or real conservation easement violations and coordinate resolutions
• Maintain SEALT’s Volunteer Land Stewards program
• Maintain positive relationships with landowners and neighbors
• Perform or coordinate trail maintenance, trash removal, brush clearing, sign installation, and invasive/native species management
• Maintain GIS-related data and produce maps using ArcGIS
