Job summary

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is seeking a Conservation Scientist to conduct scientific research and collaborate with other experts in the field. This role involves developing the Scientific Research Department and facilitating preservation efforts for the Museum’s collections.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a physical science and have over 5 years of professional experience in a relevant setting. Responsibilities include preparing reports, mentoring staff, and participating in public outreach.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years professional experience in a museum, academic, or corporate research laboratory.
  • Competency in analytical techniques like FTIR, GC/MS, SEM/EDS, XRD, and XRF.
  • Experience communicating scientific findings effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific research and analysis of the Museum’s collections.
  • Collaborate across departments on conservation and research.
  • Prepare written reports of scientific findings.
