Job summary

Johnson County in Iowa seeks a Conservation - Professional Employee to establish and care for Iowa native plants and outdoor recreation facilities, under the Natural Resource Manager.

The ideal candidate will know Iowa flora, apply pesticides, plant and maintain trees and prairies, operate equipment safely, keep records, and supervise seasonal workers while meeting safety standards and project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with 6 months of related experience, or combination of education and experience.
  • Associates degree in conservation management, biology, botany, or related natural sciences preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in upkeep of woodlands, prairies and wetlands.
  • Assist in planning and maintenance of native plant communities.
  • Apply pesticides as required.
  • Repair or remove storm damaged plant material.
  • Perform landscape planting projects.
  • Train seasonal employees in safe operation of equipment and landscaping techniques.
  • Assist in minor/major construction and maintenance projects.
