Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Connectivity System Senior Engineer to design and validate telematics systems for Power and Energy connectivity customers. You will build end-to-end solutions, connect assets to enterprise/cloud platforms, and work across multiple industries to deliver value.

You will develop test plans, validate software and hardware interfaces, and create customer-facing documentation. Some travel and collaboration across global teams are required to ensure high-quality, reliable

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of industrial protocols, control systems, and networking technologies (Modbus, Allen-Bradley, Siemens S7, TCP/IP, J1939, RS485).
  • Experience with telematics, connected products, and industrial communication systems.
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing and validation platforms such as dSPACE and FAST.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar product development processes, engines, diagnostics, and service toolsets.
  • Proven problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex hardware/software environments.
  • Experience with diagnostic and service tools, including CANalyzer, Cat ET, Wireshark, and PuTTY.

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented Connectivity System Senior Engineer to design, develop, and validate end‑to‑end telematics systems and software solutions for Power and Energy Connectivity customers. In this role, you will work across a diverse range of industries, including Oil & Gas, Marine, Electric Power, Industrial Engines, and Electrification, delivering innovative connectivity solutions that create real customer value.

You will contribute to the design and development of advanced digital information systems that enable seamless data flow from connected assets to enterprise and back‑office platforms. By leveraging modern telematics technologies, you will help improve asset performance, reliability, quality, serviceability, and operational efficiency for customers around the world.

What You Will Do
  • Design and validate end‑to‑end telematics systems and software features.
  • Develop solutions that connect assets to enterprise and cloud‑based applications.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver innovative digital products.
  • Drive improvements in performance, reliability, quality, and serviceability.
  • Support the development of next‑generation connectivity and digital solutions for Power and Energy customers
  • Gather and document customer and market requirements to support the development of innovative telematics solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define software and system requirements and translate business needs into technical specifications.
  • Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and validation activities for telematics systems and connected products.
  • Diagnose and resolve system‑level issues across hardware, software, and communication interfaces.
  • Create user guides, technical documentation, installation instructions, training materials, and other customer‑facing content.
  • Develop and maintain automated test solutions using Python and other scripting tools to improve test efficiency and coverage.
  • Design and build test harnesses, establish test environments, and support product validation activities.
  • Support field installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting efforts at customer and dealer locations (approximately 10% travel).
  • Contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Product Improvement (CPI), and Built‑In Quality (BIQ) initiatives to deliver high‑quality, reliable products
What You Will Have
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
  • Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non‑functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.
Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.

Summary Pay Range

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
