Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Electrification Controls System Engineer to contribute to the concept, development, and design of advanced electronic control systems for Caterpillar's electrification product line.

This role blends hardware and software to deliver robust power solutions that meet stringent requirements. You will collaborate with battery control teams, electronics hardware and software groups, and verification teams to ensure systems align with customer needs and industry

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Experience with embedded systems and hardware/software integration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design advanced electrical control systems and integrate electrical and mechanical subsystems for future Battery management system designs.
  • Collaborate with Electrification Battery Control teams to collect requirements and manage system design for electronics.
  • Work with Electronics Hardware and software teams to ensure components and software meet system requirements.

Job Summary:

As the Electrification Controls System Engineer, you will be accountable for contributing to the concept, development, and design of complex components, systems, subsystems, or processes for the electronics system that supports Caterpillar’s electrification product line. This position performs complex analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves problems.

What You Will Do:
  • Designing advanced electrical control systems and integrating electrical and mechanical systems to support future Battery management system designs.
  • Collaborating with Electrification Battery Control teams to collect requirements and manage system design for electronics.
  • Collaborating with Electronics Hardware and software teams to have components and software to deliver to system requirements.
  • Supporting with verification and validation teams to ensure delivery meets customer requirements.
What You Will Have:

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Embedded Systems: Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within.

Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum.

Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Experience with authoring Software Requirement Specifications
  • Experience with datalinks including J1939 and Ethernet
  • Previous experience with software development.
  • Experience collaborating with process partners to guide design decisions.
  • Personal experience in executing software delivery cycle from requirements through validation.

    Summary Pay Range:

    $97,530.00 - $146,290.00

    Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
