Amazon Connectivity Cloud Hardware Engineering in Austin, TX seeks a Connectivity Cloud Hardware Engineer to design and implement fiber connectivity solutions in hyperscale data centers. Qualifications

  • 2+ years developing fiber validation test requirements and scripts.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with cross‑functional teams and external vendors on large scale projects.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to evaluate new fiber optic solutions and plan integration into the network.
  • Design and specify structured cabling systems for data center network layers.
  • Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments.
  • Address ambiguous problem areas in network architecture and lead projects with significant impact.
  • Manage fiber vendors and perform QC/commissioning of fiber bundles and cabling systems.
  • Perform site inspections to validate as‑built conditions and ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Monitor network quality and remediate large‑scale events to maintain link health.
  • Troubleshoot fiber connectivity issues and maintain documentation for fiber assets.

Connectivity Cloud Hardware Engineer, Network Product Development

Amazon Data Services, Inc. (AWS Infrastructure Services) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to develop and evaluate new fiber optic solutions and create implementation plans for their integration into the network.
  • Design and specify structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers in hyperscale data centers.
  • Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments.
  • Address ambiguous problem areas in existing or new network architecture; propose and deliver projects with significant business or customer impact.
  • Manage fiber vendors and contractors; perform quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems.
  • Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as‑built conditions, ensuring compliance with design and operational requirements.
  • Monitor network/system/link quality and build mechanisms to remediate large‑scale events and improve link health.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fiber connectivity and plant design.
  • Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical fiber network components across global sites.

You will bridge design, construction, and operations, ensuring that every layer of physical networking meets high standards of performance, reliability, and scalability.

About the Team

Within AWS Networking, the Network Product Development (NPD) organization designs the network fiber connectivity plans and owns implementation that powers the global AWS network. We manage fiber infrastructure that grows by 70% annually, tracking key business and operational metrics to minimize any customer impact.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Communications Engineering or related field.
  • 1+ years of data center experience, or experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
  • Expertise in industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and other structured cabling guidelines.
  • 2+ years of experience developing test requirements and scripts for fiber validation and characterization.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with cross‑functional teams and external vendors on large‑scale projects.
  • Strong skills in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, cable schedules, and documentation management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or PhD with 3+ years of industry or academic research experience.
  • Certifications such as BICSI, RCDD, etc.
  • Expertise in hardware and systems design and development.
  • Experience with pluggable optics (SFP, SFP+, QSFP, QSFP‑DD, OSFP).
  • Experience working in hyper‑scale cloud, AI, or high‑performance computing environments.
  • Experience working with ODM and CM suppliers of optical modules.
Salary and Benefits

Salary ranges:
• USA, CA, Cupertino – 157,300.00 – 212,800.00 USD annually
• USA, TX, Austin – 136,000.00 – 184,000.00 USD annually
• USA, VA, Herndon – 136,000.00 – 184,000.00 USD annually
