Job summary

RTX seeks a Connected Equipment Engineer to lead enterprise manufacturing connectivity across Collins Aerospace factories. You will drive deployment of connectivity technologies, remove barriers to digital adoption, and act as the SME for equipment connectivity and digital integration.

Operating with significant autonomy, you will influence cross-functional decisions, contribute to enterprise standards, and accelerate digital transformation across multiple sites.

The Connected Equipment Engineer is a seasoned professional contributor responsible for leading and advancing enterprise manufacturing connectivity across Collins Aerospace factories. This role drives deployment of machine connectivity technologies, removes infrastructure barriers to smart manufacturing adoption, and acts as a subject matter expert for equipment connectivity and digital integration.

Operating with significant autonomy, this position manages complex technical challenges, influences cross-functional decisions, and contributes to enterprise standards that shape Connected Equipment strategy, architecture, and execution. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in automation connectivity with strong collaboration skills to accelerate digital transformation across multiple sites.

What You Will Do:
  • Serve as technical subject matter expert and first-level technical escalation for connectivity technologies, architectures, and integration methods.
  • Lead machine connectivity strategy across factories, ensuring alignment with Digital Technologies, Cybersecurity, PMO, and Operations.
  • Own and evolve enterprise approaches for connecting automation assets using Banner hardware, Kepware/Kepserver, industrial protocols, and Industry 4.0 methods.
Program and Deployment Ownership
  • Act as SME for Connected Equipment capabilities, driving deployment, maintenance, and site adoption.
  • Execute tactical and operational plans for assigned product lines, ensuring alignment to Collins Aerospace strategic objectives.
  • Manage deployments across multiple factories, navigating complex system environments and accelerating solution delivery.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Influence
  • Build strong partnerships with manufacturing sites, Digital Technologies, Cybersecurity, Operations, and Engineering to resolve blockers.
  • Influence decisions across departments by explaining technical concepts, constraints, policies, and recommended actions.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to factory automation focal points.
  • Problem Solving and Complex Integration
  • Solve complex connectivity challenges involving robotic cells, PLC/HMI architectures, SCADA systems, machine vision, and legacy automation equipment.
  • Integrate diverse systems into enterprise environments, requiring advanced analysis and coordination with cybersecurity and IT infrastructure teams.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize networks, data paths, hardware, and interfaces to improve reliability at scale.
Standards and Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to development, documentation, and refinement of enterprise standards for automation and factory connectivity.
  • Recommend improvements to connectivity hardware, architectures, and installation methods.
  • Support organizational maturity by driving adoption of secure, scalable connectivity practices.
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Demonstrated experience connecting automated machinery for data collection, including robotics, controls, machine vision, or industrial automation.
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically up to 40%
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Degree in Science,Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) preferred.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with PLCs, industrial networking, SCADA/IIoT connectivity, cybersecurity constraints, and enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with Kepware/Kepserver, Banner hardware, OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, MQTT, or similar technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, industrial sensors, or machine vision systems.
  • Ability to independently manage complex projects and influence stakeholders across multiple departments.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
