The Connected Assets Operations Engineering Technician is an entry‑level contributor supporting the deployment of enterprise manufacturing connectivity solutions across Collins Aerospace manufacturing facilities. This role performs hands‑on installation, configuration, testing, and documentation of industrial networking hardware and connected‑equipment interfaces under moderate supervision. In this role you will work alongside Connected Assets Engineers to execute day‑to‑day implementation activities, resolve basic connectivity issues, and ensure adherence to established standards and procedures.
This an onsite role in Cedar Rapids, IA. However, this position supports multiple manufacturing sites and requires domestic travel up to 50%.
What You Will Do
Equipment Installation
- Install industrial networking hardware and edge devices using established procedures.
- Route and terminate industrial Ethernet and low‑voltage cabling following enterprise standards.
- Mount and commission hardware in electrical enclosures under guidance.
- Perform straightforward equipment modifications according to drawings and instructions.
Configuration & Commissioning
- Assist in configuring industrial networking equipment and switches.
- Assist in setup of industrial PCs and edge devices.
- Support device configuration and basic testing for Kepware, Ignition, and standard industrial protocols.
- Validate connectivity and communication paths using documented procedures.
- Participate in commissioning and acceptance testing activities.
Technical Support
- Troubleshoot routine connectivity issues with equipment and enterprise systems.
- Support factory startup and line‑bring‑up activities.
- Work closely with Cross-Functional groups during support
Documentation
- Update wiring diagrams, network layouts, and configuration records.
- Document installation steps, configuration parameters, and changes.
- Assist in developing work instructions for repeatable installations.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify minor improvement opportunities in installation practices.
- Provide feedback on hardware and process standardization.
- Support pilot deployments by following test plans and reporting results.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Willingness to travel (could be up to 50%)
Qualifications We Prefer
- Degree in a related engineering technology field
- Hands-on experience with industrial automation, manufacturing equipment, or engineering laboratory systems. Academic projects, internships, and co-op experience are acceptable.
- Basic understanding of industrial automation, controls, or networking concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting, organization, and documentation skills.
- Experience supporting engineering laboratory or manufacturing equipment.
- Exposure to PLC-controlled equipment.
- Familiarity with industrial Ethernet networks and protocols.
- Experience with Kepware, Ignition, or other SCADA or IIoT tools.
- Experience with managed switches, IO-Link, industrial sensors, or edge devices.
- Basic cybersecurity and machine-safety awareness.
- Familiarity with Visio, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar documentation tools.
