Job description

Conflicts Specialist - Law Firm - Hybrid - $85-105k
Position Overview

The Conflicts Specialist will play a critical role within our client’s firm’s risk management and compliance operations by conducting comprehensive conflict-of-interest searches for new business matters. Working closely with the General Counsel’s office and the conflicts management team, this position ensures compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct and firm policies.

The ideal candidate possesses exceptional analytical skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to discern complex corporate relationships across a large volume of legal requests in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conflict Screening & Analysis: Review incoming new business requests to identify potential conflicts of interest. Design and execute complex search queries within the firm’s conflicts database (e.g., Intapp, Elite, Aderant).
  • Corporate Research: Conduct thorough research on corporate parent‑subsidiary relationships, corporate affiliates, and corporate histories using external databases (e.g., Capital IQ, Dun & Bradstreet, LexisNexis, SEC Edgar) to ensure accurate conflict checking.
  • Report Generation & Synthesis: Review and analyze extensive conflict search reports. Sift through large volumes of data to identify true matches versus false positives, and compile clear, concise summaries of potential conflicts for reviewing attorneys and partners.
  • Resolution Collaboration: Assist in the resolution of identified conflicts by coordinating the execution of conflict waivers, drafting ethical wall (screening) memorandums, and ensuring appropriate internal tracking.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain the integrity of the firm’s conflicts database by verifying party names, updating corporate family data, and ensuring accurate entry of client and matter information.
  • Ad-Hoc Support: Assist with special risk‑management projects, lateral partner integration, and regular database auditing as requested by the Conflicts Manager or Office of General Counsel.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of experience working in conflict‑of‑interest analysis within a large law firm environment is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with specialized law firm risk management applications (specifically Intapp Conflicts / Intapp Open, Elite 3E, or Aderant Expert) is strongly preferred. Experience with advanced corporate research databases.
  • Analytical Ability: Superior critical thinking skills with the ability to interpret complex corporate structures and understand the legal relationships between parties.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex factual findings clearly and professionally to partners and executive leadership.
  • Efficiency: Strong organizational and time‑management skills with a proven track record of managing a high volume of time‑sensitive requests under tight deadlines.
  • Discretion: Strict adherence to absolute confidentiality and discretion regarding sensitive firm and client data.
