Job summary

Job description

Sheppard, a global Am Law 50 firm, has an opening for a Conflicts Counsel in our Century City, Del Mar, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego (Downtown), San Francisco, or Silicon Valley office. There is only one opening.

Essential Functions

• Review, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest arising from new matters, new clients, and lateral hires, including coordination with firm attorneys as needed.
• Support the intake process by ensuring submissions are complete and accurate and by preparing or reviewing related documentation (e.g., waivers, engagement letters, and outside counsel guidelines).
• Respond to attorney and staff inquiries regarding conflicts, waivers, intake policies and procedures, and related professional responsibility issues.
• Liaise with firm attorneys to identify business conflicts and take necessary steps to document and resolve those conflicts.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of conflicts analysis experience required.
• Be meticulous, intellectually curious, have good knowledge of conflict rules, effective people skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Education

• Required: Juris Doctor

Computer/Software Knowledge

• Required: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Work Environment

• Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up in working in a high-rise or office building).
• Indoor office work environment.
• You will be based in one of our local Sheppard offices but will be allowed to work from home.
• You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
• After hours and weekend work will be required on occasion as the workload requires.

Travel Requirements

• Possibly up to 10%.

• California: The salary range for this position is $190,000 - $210,000 per year.
