Job summary

Venable LLP in Chicago is seeking a Conflicts Attorney to evaluate and resolve conflicts-of-interest for new business intake, matter openings, client updates, and lateral onboarding. You will conduct complex analyses, advise leadership on risk and ethics, and support matter openings with waivers and ethical screens.

You will review Outside Counsel Guidelines, engage with the Ethics Committee, and maintain high-quality conflicts data while educating staff on procedures and client relations.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active IL bar status.
• Minimum of 3 years conflicts or professional responsibility experience.
• Ability to analyze complex legal relationships and conflict scenarios.
• Private practice experience strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with conflicts/new-business intake systems and strong research.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for firm leadership.
• Strong negotiation skills and consultative approach.
• High discretion with confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Identify and analyze conflicts for existing and prospective clients using internal systems and external databases.
• Recommend conflict-resolution strategies including ethical walls and engagement modifications.
• Draft and maintain conflict waivers, disclosures, and related documents.
• Review Outside Counsel Guidelines and engagement letters for conflicts provisions and updates.
• Conduct conflicts analyses for lateral candidates and prepare consent letters.
• Educate attorneys and staff on conflicts procedures, intake, and client relationships.
