Ideal candidates have 2+ years in conflicts administration, proficiency with iManage/Intapp-based tools, and strong writing, research, and organizational skills. This role offers hybrid work from one of our U.S. offices.

Job description

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, a global Am Law 50 firm, has an immediate opening for a Conflicts Analyst.

We are considering candidates in any of our U.S. offices including Century City, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, San Diego (Del Mar), San Diego (Downtown), San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Washington DC. There is only one opening.

Job Summary

The Conflicts Analyst is a member of Sheppard Mullin’s Office of the General Counsel. Working under the direction of the Conflicts Supervisor and other in-house counsel, the Conflicts Analyst reports on potential conflicts of interest relating to matter intake and lateral hiring.

Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with attorneys in the Office of General Counsel to research, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest
  • Review client/matter intake forms and ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Review searches and reports for clients, matters, lateral attorney candidates and/or other new business, using the Firm’s conflicts and intake databases.
  • Ability to articulate in writing the key findings in the form of a summary or report.
  • Monitor and address all incoming email to shared department email inbox for urgent requests.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years’ experience within conflicts administration at a mid to large size law firm
  • Experience with iManage, LegalKey, Intapp, or similar Conflicts administration software
  • Basic typing skills (at least 40 wpm)
  • Proficiency with Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to compile, review, filter, synthesize, and interpret information which is varied in content and format
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and make decisions when appropriate
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the applicable rules of professional conduct regarding conflicts of interest
  • Strong research skills using internal and external resources.
  • Proven aptitude to quickly learn new applications
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to produce a high quality and accurate work product with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff at all levels
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with clearing/resolving conflicts (i.e. reviewing engagement letters and contacting partners)

Computer/Software Knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with database search systems such as Elegrity (now iManage) E-VALUATE, Legal Key, and/or IntappOpen.
Work Environment
  • Working indoors with limited exposure to hazards (only those that customarily come up in working in a high-rise or office building).
  • Indoor office work environment in a cubical or like workstation.
  • You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.
  • You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
  • After hours and weekend work will be required on occasion as the workload demands.

California: The salary range for this position is: $75,000 - $120,000 per year.

Illinois: The salary range for this position is: $75,000 - $120,000 per year. This position is eligible for bonuses. This position is also eligible for medical, vision, and dental insurance. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to Illinois Equal Pay Act.

Washington DC: The pay range for this position is: $75,000 - $120,000 per year. Medical, vision, and dental coverage is available, including coverage for dependents and domestic partners. Please note that the foregoing compensation and benefit information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position as of the time of this posting and is provided pursuant to the District of Columbia Wage Transparency Omnibus Amendment Act of 2023.

New York: The pay range for this position is: $75,000 - $120,000 per year. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
