Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a skilled financial professional to prepare and coordinate plans and schedules for new or existing programs. You will monitor costs, budgets, schedules, and manpower, and participate in customer negotiations, analyzing effects on Engineering, Facilities, and labor pools to determine practical resource methods.

This position supports the Welding, NDT, and Supplier Engineering teams within our Specialty Engineering Division, providing finance support to

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 6 years of exempt experience or Master’s degree with 4 years of experience.
  • NNS Apprentice School or NNPS credentials valued.
  • Military paygrade E-5+ or equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience in manufacturing/shipbuilding or related exempt roles.
  • Strong finance, budgeting, and cost analysis capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and coordinate plans and schedules for programs, monitor costs and budgets.
  • Support negotiations with customers and analyze impacts on engineering and labor pools.
  • Provide finance support to department managers, including trend analysis and variance explanations.

The Role

Prepares and coordinates the plans and schedules for new or existing programs. Determines, monitors, and reviews costs, operational budgets and schedules, and manpower requirements. Supports and participates in negotiations with customer. Analyzes effects of projects upon various areas such as Engineering, Facilities, and the labor pool to determine the most practical and cost-efficient methods to obtain the required resources. Resolves proposal preparation problems and assesses the progress against established plans and parameters. Formulates and recommends corrective action measures such as schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations, and work requirements.

This position supports the Welding, NDT, Supplier Engineering team within our Specialty Engineering Division. Focus of this position is providing finance support to department managers. Duties include preparing financial plans, monitoring performance, preparing regular and special purpose reports, analyzing trends, determining rationale for variances between cost and budget and maintaining records.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 4 year of relevant professional experience

  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non‑exempt experience
  • Military Paygrade E‑5 or above military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
  • High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non‑exempt experience
Individual Will Need The Following Skills
  • Strong finance acumen with advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
  • Proficient in other Microsoft Office Suite programs (i.e. PowerPoint, Word, Access).
  • Proficient with SAP
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to plan and effectively manage work.
  • Ability to logically express ideas in oral and written formats. Able to work within team environment as well as independently and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
Nice To Have
  • Experience with computer support (e.g. CUAS, SMAX)
  • Experience as a SharePoint site owner
