Job description

Job Location: Main Campus - Edmond, OK Position Type: Student Salary Range: $11.38 - $11.38 Hourly Job Category: OTRS Ineligible

Position Overview

This is a Graduate Assistant (GA) position which will assist in maintaining an orderly and safe atmosphere in the concurrent monitoring space by helping and supervising students during any times concurrent classes are not meeting in accordance with Board policy and established district procedures.

This position will be located at Deer Creek High School and will be under the direct supervision of the building Principal and the University of Central Oklahoma.

Hours per Week

Position times are available from 9:00am-3:30pm; and a schedule will be decided.

College/Department Overview

This position is hired through Academic Affairs at the University of Central Oklahoma, but the location of the position will be at Deer Creek High School.

Department Specific Job Functions

  • Assist in supervising students during the school day.
  • Ensure students remain in their assigned area during their concurrent time.
  • Circulate space to be available as needed.
  • Reports to counselor, principal, and/or other personnel, as appropriate.
  • Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner or assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.
  • Check and record student attendance as directed by the teacher.
  • May distribute textbooks, supplies or other materials as requested.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee. Full-time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in fall classes in order to work during the summer, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes. Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.

Enrollment Exception: If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources. This pertains to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions.

Qualifications/Experience Required

  • An earned Bachelor’s degree and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) license or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Successful prior experience working in a school district or with children preferred.
