Job summary

Austin Bridge & Road is seeking a Concrete Superintendent I to lead a North Phoenix construction project. You will oversee a medium-size crew, manage dirt, grading, and traffic controls, and ensure safety and quality while coordinating schedule, cost, and labor planning with project leadership.

Required is 7–10 years in heavy civil construction, with hands-on experience preferred over formal degrees. On-site role with intense field coordination and stakeholder communication.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of experience in heavy civil construction.
• Experience building substructure and superstructure.
• Strong knowledge of project specs and inspection processes.
• Ability to coordinate manpower and equipment efficiently.
• Understanding of production rates and sequencing of work.
• No degree required; hands-on experience essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a medium size crew of workers on roadway projects.
• Oversee dirt and grading operations, subgrade preparation, and line stabilization.
• Manage traffic control and MOT setups.
• Supervise milling and overlay operations.
• Coordinate and manage equipment fleet in the field.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications and inspection processes.
• Own all safety responsibilities and enforce safety standards.
• Plan and schedule daily and weekly activities to meet project goals.
• Supervise field engineers in initial site survey and layout, ensuring accuracy before foundation work begins.
• Inspect ongoing field work for quality and uniformity, addressing deficiencies promptly.
• Assist project manager in schedule, cost evaluations, and labor projections, adjusting plans as needed to maintain timeline.
• Monitor equipment use and costs, assisting in the development of equipment projection charts.
• Schedule and manage governmental inspections for certificate of occupancy.
• Maintain strong relationships with owners, architects, consultants, and other stakeholders, resolving issues through direct negotiation.
• Foster training and development of subordinates through on-the-job and external learning opportunities.
• Lead career planning, merit increases, and promotions for project staff.
• Oversee project close-out tasks, including punch lists and as-built documents.
