Job description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Stringless Survey Technician to join our concrete paving operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating multiple robotic total stations and managing a stringless paving system on a concrete slipform paver. You'll play a key role in ensuring precise elevation and alignment of the concrete pavement, maintaining high ride quality, and contributing to the successful completion of highway and infrastructure projects.


Responsibilities:

  • Stringless Paving Operations: Operate and monitor stringless paving systems using robotic total stations and field computers.
  • Elevation & Alignment Control: Ensure paving operations meet specified tolerances for grade and smoothness.
  • Site Setup & Verification: Set up robotic instruments, check into control points and benchmarks, and verify project data against design plans.
  • Equipment Handling: Maintain and troubleshoot survey and machine control equipment for consistent, reliable performance.
  • Work harmoniously, cooperatively, and courteously with others at all times.
  • Follow directions and instructions from supervisors.
  • Perform a variety of tasks and duties that may change often as the work conditions require.
  • Work within defined standards of accuracy.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions, including temperatures over 85 degrees and below 40 degrees.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Punctuality & Dependability: You must be reliable, show up on time every time, and be ready to work long shifts, including early mornings and late evenings.
  • Willingness to Travel: Job sites may be located up to five hours from your home, with extended overnight stays required during the workweek.
  • Basic Computer Proficiency: Must be able to send emails, manage files (e.g., Excel spreadsheets), and transfer data to/from flash drives and field computers.
  • Outdoor Work Readiness: Comfortable working in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
  • Ability to use arms and hand to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
  • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.
  • Ability to perform frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to see and hear well (naturally or with correction.)
  • Ability to travel and work overtime, as requested.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Field Adaptability: Quick thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate less-than-ideal field conditions.
  • Surveying Knowledge: Familiarity with total stations, control point verification, and basic surveying concepts.
  • Plan Reading: Ability to interpret plan and profile sheets and digital project files.
  • Basic Electronics: Understanding of multimeters and ability to troubleshoot minor electrical issues in the field.
  • Tool Proficiency: Comfortable using hand tools to install, maintain, or remove components of the machine control system.
